Check In, Not Checking Out: A Mid-Winter Alignment Audit

Check In, Not Checking Out: A Mid-Winter Alignment Audit

By Dr. Nakia Davis | Strength In Her | Sacred Bloom Journal Series

Opening Scripture

Colossians 3:15 (NIV)

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…”

Introduction: This Is the Middle, Not the End

Mid-winter has a way of testing our resolve.

The excitement of a new year has softened.

The lists are quieter.

The goals feel heavier.

And many people, right about now, begin to check out — mentally, emotionally, spiritually.

But this season is not asking you to quit.

It’s asking you to check in.

January isn’t over yet. And more importantly, you are still here

Why a Mid-Winter Alignment Audit Matters

Alignment isn’t a one-time decision.

It’s a practice.

What felt clear on January 1 may feel foggy now.

What felt exciting may now feel exhausting.

What you committed to may need adjusting — not abandoning.

A mid-winter alignment audit is not about judgment.

It’s about honest inventory.

Not:

  • “What did I fail at?”
    But:
  • “What’s actually working?”
  • “What feels aligned?”
  • “What feels forced?”
  • “What is draining my peace?”

Peace is the measure.

Peace as the Compass

Colossians 3:15 reminds us that peace is not a reward — it’s a ruler.

Peace doesn’t mean everything is easy.

It means you’re moving in the right direction.

If something consistently robs you of peace, clarity, or rest, it deserves your attention. Not to shame you — but to realign you.

Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is adjust your pace.

Checking In Looks Like This

Checking in might mean:

  • Releasing a goal that no longer fits
  • Reframing success for this season
  • Resting without guilt
  • Saying no to unnecessary pressure
  • Reconnecting with God without an agenda

This is not the time to push harder.

It’s the time to listen more closely.

Alignment deepens in stillness.

You Don’t Need to Start Over

One of the biggest myths of January is that if you’ve slowed down, you’ve failed.

You haven’t.

You are learning how to move sustainably.

You are learning what alignment actually feels like.

You are learning that intention requires tenderness, not force.

This is not checking out.

This is checking in wisely.

A Gentle Mid-Winter Reflection

Ask yourself:

  • What feels aligned right now?
  • Where am I carrying unnecessary weight?
  • What would honoring my peace look like this week?
  • What needs to be softened, not fixed?

Let the answers rise without pressure.

Closing Thought

January doesn’t need to be loud to be meaningful.

Progress doesn’t need to be visible to be real.

And alignment doesn’t require perfection — only presence.

Stay here.

Stay honest.

Stay aligned.
