September Anchor:
“I will not rush what God is rooting, resist what He is pruning, or shrink from what He is stretching. I am growing on purpose.”
Welcome back to The Rogue Report, our weekly space for living intentionally, walking in alignment, and choosing purpose over comfort.
Last week, we talked about the stretch—learning not to automatically interpret unfamiliar territory as failure.
This week, growth asks something different of us.
What are you willing to release so that what is meant to grow has room to flourish?
Because growth isn’t always about adding.
Sometimes, growth looks like less.
Before the Bloom Comes the Pruning
A gardener doesn’t only pay attention to what is blooming.
She pays attention to what is consuming resources.
What is overcrowding.
What is growing in the wrong direction.
What needs tending.
And yes—what may need to be cut back so the plant can continue developing well.
Our lives require that same kind of honest examination.
Sometimes we’re asking God for expansion while continuing to give our time, attention, and energy to things that no longer support the direction we’re trying to go.
Old habits.
Unhealthy patterns.
Overcommitment.
Fear.
People-pleasing.
Constant access.
The need to explain ourselves.
Relationships or environments we’ve outgrown.
And sometimes the thing that needs pruning isn’t around us at all.
Sometimes it’s within us.
That’s where pruning gets uncomfortable.
Not Everything You Release Was Bad
One of the hardest lessons of growth is accepting that something doesn’t have to be terrible for you to recognize that its season has changed.
Some things served you well.
Some relationships were meaningful.
Some habits helped you survive a difficult season.
Some versions of yourself did exactly what they needed to do to get you here.
You can honor what something meant without requiring it to accompany you forever.
That’s maturity.
We sometimes hold on because letting go feels ungrateful. Or because familiarity feels safer than uncertainty. Or because we’ve invested so much time that releasing something feels like admitting it was wasted.
But growth asks a different question:
Is this still producing fruit in the life I’m being called to cultivate?
Not Was it once good?
Not Have I had it for a long time?
Not Will people understand why I’m changing?
Is it still fruitful?
Pruning Isn’t Permission to Cut Everybody Off
And Sacred One, this part matters.
“I’m in my pruning season” cannot become spiritual language for avoiding difficult conversations, abandoning relationships when they require work, or removing anyone who disagrees with us.
Sometimes growth requires leaving.
Sometimes growth requires staying and changing how we show up.
Sometimes the boundary is distance.
Sometimes the boundary is simply no.
Sometimes pruning looks like ending something.
And sometimes it looks like ending a pattern within yourself while remaining exactly where you are.
That’s why pruning requires discernment.
Before you reach for the scissors, pray.
Examine.
Be honest.
Ask whether you’re releasing something because it truly no longer belongs—or because staying would require accountability, vulnerability, forgiveness, patience, or growth from you.
Everything uncomfortable isn’t meant to be cut away.
Some things need pruning.
Other things need tending.
Wisdom is knowing the difference.
Empty Space Doesn’t Have to Be Filled Immediately
After something is removed, there is often space.
And we don’t always like space.
So we rush to fill the calendar again.
Replace the relationship.
Pick up another responsibility.
Find another distraction.
Return to an old habit.
Anything to avoid sitting with what feels empty.
But perhaps the empty space isn’t a problem to solve.
Maybe it is room.
Room to hear.
Room to rest.
Room to reconsider.
Room to develop new rhythms.
Room for God to reveal what you couldn’t see while everything was crowded.
Don’t be so afraid of an empty space that you refill what growth just cleared.
Let there be room before there is bloom.
🌱 THE ROGUE REFLECTION
Examine What You’re Carrying.
What relationship, habit, commitment, mindset, or pattern is receiving energy that may no longer belong there?
Look Within, Too.
Before identifying what needs to change around you, ask: What might need to change within me?
Choose One Intentional Boundary.
Protect one area this week. Guard your calendar. Say no without overexplaining. Step away from gossip. Put down the phone. Stop reopening a conversation you’ve already resolved.
Not as punishment.
Not to prove a point.
To make room for what matters.
This Week’s Declaration
I will not resist the pruning required for healthy growth. I will seek wisdom about what to release, what to tend, and what to transform within myself. I trust that making room is also part of becoming.
Sacred One, everything cannot come with you.
But neither does everything need to be thrown away.
The work is learning the difference.
So this week, don’t ask only:
“What do I need to cut off?”
Ask the deeper question:
“What needs to change so that I can grow well?”
Because sometimes before there is evidence of the bloom…
there has to be room for it. 🌱
Release made room.
Obedience gave direction.
Now, we grow.
Go Rogue. Grow in Purpose. 💜👑
